Why Holiday Homework is important??

Ahh......Holiday........everyone waits eagerly for the holidays especially kids. Their eyes sparkle after hearing about the holidays. They start planning for the activities for the vacation whether it is summer vacation, winter vacation or any other holidays. National holidays and religious holidays are usually very short and span only for 1 or 2 days but yes, summer and winter holidays are really long, especially the summer vacation. So, even the list of activities for enjoyment is also really very long. e.g Visit to grandma's place, spending time with whole family, playing with the cousins, visiting new places etc. Kids' spent most of their time in all these activities only and rest of the time in sleeping for more hours. 😊. That's perfectly fine because when they have to go school,  they need to get up early for school. So, sleeping till late is permissible for holidays. All these enjoyments are necessary and are the precious memories of childhood. Even after growing up also they relish these memories.

So, during these vacations they completely forget about the books and studies. All the bags are packed up and kept inside the almirah. Old books and copies are also sold off. So, basically they don't do anything that is related to studies. They completely forget about the things being taught in the school in these long holidays. .......

So, when they are back from the break they are not able to connect well with the studies. Their mind become completely blank and it takes time for them to get back on the track..... Being a teacher, i am telling this with my personal experience. Instead of learning something new, they still struggle with the old concepts only. Is it good for the learners?????

Thus, to reduce this loss of concepts because of break, it is important to keep them engaged with some learning activity. We can't snatch their vacation from their small hands , but yes of course, we can give them stick to hold for whole break i.e. Holiday Homework.

Holiday homework will ask them to do some activities which will involve the use of concepts learned in the classroom . Though all the concepts can't be covered through this but yes few can be.

So now, its the responsibility of parents to make their kids keep learning throughout the vacation. Thus, i just want to request every parent to spend some time daily at least 15-20 minutes with kids in opening the school books and just giving a glance to the concepts. This is going to create a long lasting impact on kids learning. This will also trigger and increase the interest of kids towards studies and after break they will be able to connect well with the learning in school.
